THE BLUEPRINT OF BLACK PLEDGES MISSION

Black Pledges is not a plan that was conceived, in fact it was a traumatic experience that started in 2011 with Jacob Miller and his family. An attack of Streptococcus Meningitis Type A sent him into a coma, paralysis, and brain surgery. Although successful, the brain surgery left him instantly illiterate.

Jacob struggling at grade level was an understatement. Because of medical trauma we had immesurable financial hardships and we were the epitemy of underserviced.

The resource and support needed for Jacob became the blueprint of how to attack inequitable learning environments for underserviced children. No matter how a child got below grade level, with the help of the all relevant adults and Black Pledges we can close the gaps of inequity and give our underserviced children the support they need.
